New podcast for parents battles child obesity

Sydney, NSW - October, 25th 2006 - Childhood obesity is growing. The number of
overweight kids has doubled in recent years. The development of obesity is
disturbing because it causes ill-health and is very difficult to reverse. Overweight
children are very likely to be overweight adults.

The Better Health Channel www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au is reporting that levels of
childhood obesity are increasing at alarming rates in many countries, including the
United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. In Australia, one in five children
and adolescents are either overweight or obese.

From 1985 to 1995 the number of overweight 7-15 year olds almost doubled. The
numbers of obese children has more than tripled. Over the same period, there has
been a huge increase in children's consumption of energy-dense foods, such as:

* Cakes and biscuits (46 per cent increase)
* Soft drinks (30-50 per cent increase)
* Confectionary (40-56 per cent increase)
* Sugar products and dishes (60-136 per cent increase).

At the current rate, it is predicted that 65 per cent of young Australians will be
overweight or obese by 2020.

These shocking statistics have inspired an online kids radio station,
www.boostdigitalkids.com , to also offer regular podcasts aimed at concerned
parents.

The "Fresh Tastes for Healthy Kids" podcasts are all about getting kids away from
that junk food they love and showing them how healthy food can also be very tasty
while being good for them.

The podcasts, which can also be downloaded and saved, or listened to on the
computer, are sponsored by the Fresh Express Group who provide healthy food to
school canteen and tuck shops. http://www.freshexpress.com.au

CEO of the Fresh Express Group Graeme Logan said: \"We are proud to be associated
with these podcasts as they fit in neatly with our mission to provide fresh and
healthy foods to school kids and to encourage parents to do the same."

The first episode of "Fresh Tastes for Healthy Kids, now available, advises the two
words to avoid when talking about healthy foods to kids.

Plus there\'s the story about a parent backlash AGAINST healthy foods and we\'ll hear
the shocking truth about how healthy those muesli bars really are. (A consumer test
shows you're better off eating a Mars Bar!)

Each episode will also feature a simple recipe for a dish that kids will love but is
also extra good for them.

It's planned there will be a new episode of the podcast every two weeks. Available
